damn update!

we haven't really updated this thing since early spring. not that anyone reads it, but in case they do, well, they haven't been updated. so here's a little update on all things broads-related.

OCTOBER: all of our shows in October were cancelled due to horrible, shitty New England weather. hurricanes, snow storms, power outages... it sucked. we had some awesome shows lined up but, eh, what can you do? we'll make them up sometime. hopefully the weather mellows out a bit for the winter months, we've got some rad shows scheduled and we do NOT want to miss them.

NOVEMEBER: this was a busy month for the broads. we were fortunate enough to be able to play with More Beer Please again, this time up in Lowell, Massachusetts at a place called the Worthen House. Met a lot of awesome people, played with a bunch of awesome bands (we love More Beer Please, if you couldn't tell) and had an all-around awesome time. the next week we played a show up in New Hampshire - without our bassist. all things considered it went pretty well, but we missed our Michelle. it was cool to finally get up to New Hampshire though, we'd never played up there before... then on the 26th we played in Boston at the Midway Cafe (an awesome venue which we loved) with yesterday's heroes and the red line rebels... we were glad to get back up to Boston, usually that city has fucked us over but this time we had a great time. all the bands were amazing, the place was packed, we had a great time. the next day we made our way over to NYC to record our first full-length album. we'd never recorded in a studio before - it was sick and we all had a blast. we can't wait to release our first CD - the tracks are almost done being mastered and we're working on our album art... pretty soon we'll be ready to debut something we're actually proud of!

DECEMBER: we started off the month with a two-day mini (and we mean mini) tour with Common Enemy. its not really a tour-tour, we know, but we did play with them two days in a row in two different states so we're just gonna go with it and call it a mini tour. because we can. anyway, it was really awesome. we played the Lansdale VFW in Pennsylvania with Common Enemy, Friends with Murder, the Mahlors, Switch Hitter and LMI on Friday night. The bands were all awesome, the place was packed and the crowd was intense. we were very impressed by Pennsylvania - we'd never been out there before but it was totally awesome. we met some really cool kids, we finally got to hang out with Kevin of Riot Radio, we got to check out a Wawa (we wish they'd bring some up here to CT) and we saw a ton of roadkill. one of the bands even had a flattened squirrel attached to one of their amps. you don't see that in Connecticut. the next day we played in Middletown, New York with Common Enemy, Soul 4 Sale, More Faster and Ditchdigger at an awesome venue called Sounds Asylum. this place was really cool - the people were so nice and the crowd was alright, too. Common Enemy put on an amazing show (as usual) and everyone had an awesome time. we had pretty much had the best weekend ever. yep.

UPCOMING: we will be playing with the Casualties again on December 18th at the Gee. we can't wait - we haven't played in the NLC since September and the show will surely be a good one (also playing will be No! and Absum, so, yep... it'll be awesome) and after that we've got a few other shows set up. January 3rd we'll be at the Gee again, with Cry Havoc! (we're SOOOOO excited for this... we haven't played with Cry Havoc! since June... we miss them terribly) and then we'll be back at the Gee again on January 28th with Cry Havoc!, Black Noise Scam, Olde York, Refuse/Resist and M-13 for the M-13 record release show. we're so excited about this! we've been playing a lot out of state recently but we can't wait to get back to the Gee and play with some of our favorite CT bands. it's been far too long...

so that's pretty much that. we've been busy playing shows and we've been having a blast doing it. we'd like to thank a ton of people so we're gonna do it right here, right now (not that many people will read this, but in the off chance that they do, here's the shout out): we'd like to thank the boys of More Beer Please for bringing us up to Lowell, we had an awesome time and we're huge MBP fans so that was just really cool; we'd like to thank the guys who gave us toll money to get home because that was really generous and we would've been shit outta luck without it; we'd like to thank Jay from the Red Line Rebels for bringing us up to Boston, that show was really cool and we had a great time; we'd like to thank Tom from the Cutting Room Studios because he's awesome, he put up with us (and our horrible music) for 10+ hours and he's gonna make us sound better than we actually are, which is really cool; we'd like to thank Kevin of Riot Radio for putting us on his radio show and for coming out to the show we played in PA (and for telling us about the make your own milkshakes... mmmm); we'd like to thank the boys in Common Enemy for inviting us to play with them this past weekend, we had an awesome time hanging out and playing the shows and we're so glad we got the opportunity to share the stage with them two nights in a row; we'd like to thank everyone at Sounds Asylum in Middletown, NY, you guys were awesome and we really appreciated everything you did for us (especially the food, and helping us carry our equipment, and basically everything); we'd like to thank all the bands we played with, all the kids who came out to the shows, all the people who put the shows on... yep, that's pretty much it. THANK YOU!

You're Gonna Die

You're gonna die and so am I such is the fate of our kind
You're gonna die they're gonna cry at such a waste of a mind
You're gonna die and someday soon you'll hear those funeral bells ring
You're gonna die and someday soon you'll hear those mourning men sing
You're gonna die!

You're gonna die it's all been done before it's sad but it's true
You're gonna die and now the Reaper man he's coming for you
You're gonna die and now his grasp is tightening 'round your throat
You're gonna die and now you're wishing you could find a way out
You're gonna die!

You're gonna die your mama always told you there'd come a time
You're gonna die and now you see that white light shine in your eyes
You're gonna die and now you realize that you're terrified
You're gonna die and now you realize that you're gonna die
You're gonna die!

Pay to Play

Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck pay to play shows!

Stages, basements, all the same
Playing ‘cos you love to play
Playing every fucking day
Fuck pay to play shows!

For the punx, not for the cash
Living hard and dying fast
Can’t believe it’s come to this
Fuck pay to play show!

Selling tickets ain’t your thing
Now they’ve got you hustling
Now you’re fucking hustling
Fuck pay to play shows!

Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck pay to play shows!
Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck pay to play shows!

It’s dog-eat-dog, you know it’s true
You want to play, what can you do?
You’re just another punk rock fool
Fuck pay to play shows!

The terms are set and you consent
A ruling that you’ll soon resent
You’re finding yourself discontent
Fuck pay to play shows!

You’re doing what you must to sell
But you’re not doing it so well
This is a business, this is Hell
Fuck pay to play shows!

I’m not your stepping stone
I, I, I, I, I’m not your stepping stone!

Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck pay to play shows!
Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck pay to play shows!

It’s dog-eat-dog, you know it’s true
You want to play, what can you do?
You’re just another punk rock fool
Fuck pay to play shows!

The terms are set and you consent
A ruling that you’ll soon resent
You’re finding yourself discontent
Fuck pay to play shows!

You’re doing what you must to sell
But you’re not doing it so well
This is a business, this is Hell
Fuck pay to play shows!

Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck pay to play shows!
Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck pay to play shows!

We Won't Change A Thing

I'm a fucking hypocrite; I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again
(I’m such a hypocrite! I’m a fucking hypocrite!)
Acting like I won’t take your shit but I always back down in the end
(I’m such a hypocrite! And I'm fucking sick of it!)

Written on paper it sounds so nice in these anthems that we sing
But what’s ideal is rarely real - you know we won’t change a thing!

You talk the talk but lost the walk somewhere long ago on your way
(“I won’t back down!” you cried; “I won’t back down!” you lied)
You’re rotting here; living in fear, wishing things would just stay the same
(But nothing stays the same; you know nothing stays the same!)

Written on paper it sounds so nice in these anthems that we sing
But what’s ideal is rarely real - you know we won’t change a thing!

You know it’s true what they’re saying about the kids like me and you,
We talk - but then what? Talk is cheap if no one ever follows up, I'm thinking
Maybe someday someone will do something that makes a fucking change!

We find ourselves bound in this circumstance, hopeless, time after time
(It’s always been the same, day after fucking day!)
We vow to make a change but no one dares step on up to the line
(Seems everyone’s afraid; it’s such a fucking shame!)

Written on paper it sounds so nice in these anthems that we sing
But what’s ideal is rarely real - you know we won’t change a thing!

Damn Broads! at Valentine's

our first show in new york was fucking awesome! we had a great time and we loved all the bands who played, all the kids who came out to the show and really pretty much everybody over at valentine's. we had a great time.

the broads have played shows in connecticut and massachusetts, but that's been it so far - until this past friday when we finally got ourselves over to new york to play valentine's in albany. it was our best first-new york-show ever!

if we could play shows like the one at valentine's the other night, every night, we probably would. the club, the kids, everything about it was just awesome.

now don't get us wrong... we love playing connecticut. it's our home. we love the el 'n gee (even if we do have to watch our backs around the new london police department every time we play a show there), we love the whitney house (but really, who doesn't love the whitney house), we miss wrench in the works... we love all the basements, warehouses and various other buildings we've played in our state. but playing a new state is pretty cool too.

everyone at the show friday night was so good to us. people danced, people sang, people were awesome. we loved people on friday night.

we'd like to thank pauly for getting us on the show (and doing everything else he did for the broads), ash for taking the video, all the bands (Hijinx, Never Odd or Even and Society High... you guys are all amazing and we're so glad we got to share the stage with you), all the kids that danced and sang along with us, and all the other kids who just went out to the show. and everybody else.

we can't wait to play valentine's again, which we will be doing in about a month - april 23rd for those of you keeping track. it's a good thing we're going back then too because we somehow forgot to bring michelle's bass home (which is actually riley's bass that michelle uses... michelle's gonna have to use her own bass until then). thankfully they're keeping the bass safe up there for us until we return to play with the spins, zero climax, the dead tricks and dead aces. that's gonna be a great show too. we can't wait to go back!

sick shows

and no, we don't mean sick shows as in "oh, that show was so sick..."

we ended up not playing the snapper's show [2/26/2011] because riley was sick... we were really bummed about it because we love snapper magee's - it's our home. but when your vocalist can't even talk, well, there's no way around it. you can't get through a set without your lead vox. unless you do an all-instrumental set. but somehow we didn't think people would go for that, so we dropped off the show. hopefully we can play snapper's again, someday soon.

and, as luck would have it, exactly one week later we found ourselves without our bassist, michelle, because she was too sick to play. we were really pissed about that too, but we played the show anyway. it was at the cry havoc! headquarters, a basement show, and it was awesome. we got through our set without michelle but it was strange and horrible and we don't ever want to play a show without our bassist ever again. that shit sucked. us broads must have shitty immune systems or something... we're always ill. and not good ill.

but now we're all healthy again and we're good to go. we played two boots of bridgeport last night and we're playing valentine's in albany, new york next friday. we're so stoked for valentine's - it'll be our first new york show!

here's a video from the show we played last night, taken by jeff.

the show went... well. we probably shouldn't have been playing a pizza joint, but hey, we did. what of it? we were supposed to go on first, but "due to lyrical content" we were moved to the last slot of the showcase that night (who would've thought that our profane lyrics would move us from an opening slot to a closing slot on a show?) and we pretty much cleared the place out. not really, there were like ten people that stayed for us. that's about ten more than we expected to be playing to. THANKS TO EVERYONE THAT STAYED!

pizza joints probably aren't the best venue for a punk band, in case you're wondering. it was a fun show to play, and we appreciate being put on it and all that, but seriously... it was a little too family-friendly if you know what we mean. there were children there! we're all for corrupting people, but children? they probably should be kept far, far, far away from us broads. by the time we went on all the children had cleared out but still, it's the principle of the matter. they could've been there. we could've corrupted their malleable little minds. we might've even felt bad about that. probably not though. oh well.

we'd just like to thank everyone that put on the show (specifically maria from mindz-i entertainment and bob from two boots) and to everyone who came out to support the broads. and a special thanks (and by "special" we mean "bold, underlined and in italics"... after all, it doesn't get much more special than that) to javier and jeff for coming out and for taping our set. we love you all.

another weekend update

the broads played a warehouse in Thomaston, CT last night... it was just us and another band, Formed From Anger [CT hardcore]... we had an awesome time, got through our set without really fucking up (despite all the alcohol we'd consumed beforehand) and had an awesome time. i said that twice totally on purpose because we had an awesome time. us broads love alcohol. yes sir. not that drinking alcohol in excess is a good thing to do, necessarily. although last night it seemed like a pretty good thing to do, to be honest with you. but we are in no way condoning the use of alcohol in the way in which we used it. we were bad broads. bad, drunk broads. oh well. we met some cool people, had a lot of fun and want to thank javier & jeff for helping us out with the show.

there are probably gonna be very embarrassing pictures and/or videos from last night's show, which we may or may not let people see depending on how embarrassing they are. we shall see. also, the broads would like to thank everyone in the town of Thomaston for not stealing the bag of alcohol we left in a snowbank. we appreciate it. sincerely.

next weekend [Saturday, 2/26/2011] we will be playing Snapper Magee's with At Long Last, Maybe Pete and the Hudson Falcons. we can't wait for this show, we love Snapper's. we're actually madly in love with Snapper's. for real. we draw little DAMN BROADS/SNAPPER MAGEE'S love hearts all the time on the fronts of our notebooks in class. it's weird. actually, that's a lie... we don't go to school. but if we did there totally would be little broads/snappers love hearts all over everything.

and, we know how much everybody likes our cock sparrer watch your back cover but we're going to start working on a new cover which we're pretty sure you guys will also like. possibly more than cock sparrer. we'll see. we're not telling anyone what the new cover is but we'll give you a hint. uh huh.

weekend update

here's a little update in the life of the broads, for those of you who care:

friday's show was awesome. we ended up playing an hour later than we'd planned (we went on at about 8:30pm... not too shabby) and we had a great time. we love our new songs and we couldn't wait to play 'em for you guys (and by you guys we mean everyone who goes out to shows) and we didn't even fuck them up, so that was a relief. not that we planned on fucking them up but you never know... when you're playing live there's always opportunity to have everything go to shit. all the bands on the show were awesome, all the people came out were awesome, and of course joaquin is THE MAN.

saturday's show was cool too... we played with the main street suits, the mcgunks and bobbie peru. they're all pretty rad bands - the mcgunks are cool dudes (who we were supposed to have a drinking contest with... maybe next time, if the alcohol is cheaper, or free. hah!), and the main street suits were lookin' pretty damn spiffy, what with all their suits and ties and such - we, on the other hand, looked like we'd been attacked by toxic valentines, or something like that (we were so obnoxiously pink and red that it crossed the line from funny to just plain wrong. but when you tell the broads they're gonna be playing a valentine's show, well, that's what you get.) we scared a lot of the nice, bar-going people away with our music... i'm starting to think we're getting too crass & abrasive to be playing bar shows. the other bands were nice to listen to. the broads, not so much. oh well.

Damn Broads! [aka "you fucking bitches"]

in other news, we found out that the folks from CT Scenic have got a little "crushipoo" on us, so that's cool. no, i take that back, that's awesome. we were way too excited when we found out that someone, some [insane] person (and i mean insane in the nicest possible sense of the word, only because anyone who's got a crushipoo on any of the broads has got to be out of their mind) wrote the word "crushipoo" in the same sentence as "damn broads". and not just that, mind you, but they used the word "crushipoo" to describe "damn broads". that's just crazy. and awesome. and we love it.

we wanna thank joaquin, javier, all the bands from friday & saturday night's shows, our bros (specifically andrew, robbie & zeke), and everyone who came out to the shows... you guys are awesome and we love you. if we could write you each a sappy & pathetic valentine's day card, we would. unfortunately we don't have your addresses or enough glitter to make all those cards so you're just gonna have to accept this written paragraph in our blog as your thanks.

so, thanks.

GIRL BANDS SUCK

if you're heard one song you've heard 'em all, they're all the fucking same
sappy love songs sung by riot girls that pierce your fucking brain
demanding respect although you know they're gimmicky as fuck
you may think it's hypocritical but i think girl bands suck

nobody wants to listen 'cos their music's fucking lame
they bitch about misogynists 'cos they're the ones to blame
"it's hard to get respect when you're stuck playing a boy's game"
nobody wants to listen to a bunch of fucking dames

their message of equality gets thrown right to the wind
the very moment that they're shown the easy way to get ahead
they'll keep singing songs of moving on and women's rights and shit
to an audience that's only there to see their ass and tits

do they care about the music or is that all just a front?
it seems to me their only talent is possession of a cunt
they complain of inequality but no one gives a fuck
you may think it's hypocritical but i think girl bands suck

nobody wants to listen 'cos their music's fucking lame
they bitch about misogynists 'cos they're the ones to blame
"it's hard to get respect when you're stuck playing a boy's game"
nobody wants to listen to a bunch of fucking dames

nobody wants to listen 'cos their music's fucking lame
they bitch about misogynists but they're the ones to blame
"it's hard to get respect when you're stuck playing a boy's game"
nobody wants to listen to a bunch of fucking dames!

damn shows!

we're gonna be coming out of our month-long hiatus soon, and we've got a ton of shows lined up that we're really excited about. we miss playing shows. a lot.

february 11, 2011: we'll be playing the el 'n gee with stomped on sight, heavy breath, problems, los bungalitos, bust it! and worlds... we'll be taking the stage at 8:15 sharp, so show up early if you wanna see your broads play their first show of the new year. you know you want to.

february 12, 2011: we'll be playing anna liffey's in new haven for a valentine's day punk rock show... other bands on the bill are the main street suits, the mcgunks and bobbie peru. sorry, kids... this is a 21+ show only. we go on at approximately 9pm, and ladies get in to the show free before 9:30. so if you're a lady and you wanna see some damn broads, it's your lucky day.

february 25, 2011: the broads will be playing at cherry street station in wallingford. not much information on this show as of right now since it's not all set up yet, but if everything goes as planned, we'll be playing with loud youth, cry havoc! and the havnotz. so this would be the coolest show ever.
edit [2/9/11]: loud youth, cry havoc! and the havnotz all can't play the show. but the show is still on, with three really awesome bands: insufficient evidence (we played with them at the all asia in boston), found dead in trunk (old school connecticut punk rock) and NO! (we played with them before at wrench in the works).

march 11, 2011: the broads will be featured in the women who rock showcase at two boots of bridgeport. we don't have any info on this show right now, it's in the works.

damn broads! at taco bell

so we're finally starting to upload videos from the past four months... we'd been too busy with practice and playing shows to do it earlier, but you guys should expect to see at least one video per week uploaded to our youtube account for the next month at least. after that we'll be playing shows again so it'll be iffy on how often we'll be updating everything, you know us broads, we're not good at the whole internets thing.
